6 of the Friendliest Countries in the World

Canada

Canada is a vast nation with a very diverse landscape, but one thing you’ll find true no matter which province you might be in, is Canadians are incredibly polite. In fact, “friendly and nice” defines the character of the country.

Even in big cities, you’ll rarely hear the blare of a car horn in the middle of traffic. Newfoundlanders in particular may be the friendliest of all, perhaps stemming from the fact that many locals have Irish ancestry.

Genuine, warm, fun-loving, welcoming, often with a great sense of humor and a knack for storytelling — that’s likely why Newfoundland was named one of the top 10 friendliest cultures in the world by Macleans magazine.

Thailand

Nicknamed the “land of smiles,” Thailand is one of the most hospitable countries in the world; it’s filled with welcoming people who are sure to make your visit an unforgettable one, especially if you get outside of the large tourist centers such as Bangkok or Phuket. Some travelers have even encountered undercharging by wait staff at restaurants who go overboard when it comes to being nice.

Along with the warmth and kindness of the Thai people, other stereotypes about Thailand are true as well, including outstanding shopping, amazing cuisine and spectacular beaches.

Iceland

This country’s name is about as opposite of a description of a land and its people as you can get. Not only is it a lot more green than icy and barren, but the warmth of the Icelanders seems to quickly melt away any chilly temperatures you might encounter.

Even throughout those winters that see just a few hours of sun during the darkest days, the legendary Icelandic elves seem to work their magic on the nearly always smiling locals. Of course, the fact that they spend much of their time soaking in soothing natural hot springs and enjoying some of the most impressive scenery on Earth probably doesn’t hurt.
