A beautiful country, Ukraine is nevertheless becoming quickly destabilized as a result of its ongoing dispute with Russia. While the feud exists primarily between Ukraine’s armed forces and Russian separatists is it common for civilians to become involved in the fighting.

With some Western countries closing their consulates in parts of Ukraine it is becoming increasingly important that tourists remain vigilant should they decide to visit.

Although Colombia has a notorious reputation as being one of South America’s most dangerous countries, tourists will find locals to be friendly and welcoming. Nevertheless, Colombia has earned its spot on our list for its ever-present drug and organized crime.

However, such crime is most common along Colombia’s borders (particularly Brazil and Venezuela) with many areas of the country remaining safe for visitors.

9. Egypt

Known for its famous pyramids and ancient culture, Egypt today remains under a high threat of terrorism. Bordered by the Gaza Strip, Israel, Libya, and Sudan the country is located within the world’s most dangerous political region.

Although many of Egypt’s protests take place under peaceful pretenses, such demonstrations can often change quickly with police and demonstrators alike relying on live ammunition for control.
